Monday, April 29     DeWayne Hayes C.O.E. in Columbus, MS

Another day in Paradise!!!

This was an old park but very nice.  We were settled in a lovely spot along the river.  We couldn’t walk down to it from there because at the back of our site, it was a straight down drop off to the water.  It was a busy river, which kept it interesting.  We saw everything from Sailboats, to speedboats pulling wake boarders, bass boats and great big barges.  The river was dirty with a lot of big logs and other things in it, so Ton didn’t put his kayak in it and we certainly wouldn’t have gone in it.  We stayed here two days.

We had a lot of interesting wild life around us and were visited often by them.  Birds & squirrels greeted us each morning and afternoon.  We had a Muskrat each evening eating and hanging out at the side of our site.  He wasn’t afraid of anything and one evening a Armadillo was there, but when we went inside to get the camera he ran away.  It was funny to see him running.

We rode bikes a lot, barbequed in the evenings and went through some interesting bike rides on the trails through the woods.  On one ride this Armadillo was on our path but we could only get his picture from behind, because when we passed him to get a picture from the front he scurried off.

So far no rain, relaxing and interesting places and we are loving it.

We arrived at Lady Luck Casino in Caruthersville, Missouri.  It’s just a one night stop to break the drive and had good ratings.  It is along the Mississippi River and the Flood waters two years ago were 49 feet above sea level,  leaving only one foot before going over the top leaving only one foot before going over the top of the sea wall.    The Sea Wall is the entrance to the RV Park from the Casino.  It has Water, sewer, Electric & cable for $20.00.

This is our site at the Casino
A shuttle picked us up and took us up the hill to the Casino to check in.  We were not going to stay and gamble, as it was so smoky we were both coughing.  Not a good place for us but when we signed in we received a Players card and $10 receipt to each each of us.  They also gave us t-shirts for signing in.  We were told to go to the cashier and get the cash to start playing and if we chose not to play, we just got a free nights stay.  Well, that was a no brainer – too smokey to play, we’re not gamblers anyway,     So…..we took the receipt to the cashier, got our $20 total and that replaced the $20 we had just paid for our spot.  A Free Night.

Tomorrow, we go to Gun Creek Corp of Engineer park on Rand Lake in Whittington, IL.  They only had a few sites left with hook-ups so we are not on the water this time, but that is okay.

Thinking of you and send our love.

Love your method of gambling! Like Tracy said, it's miserable here and Kyli, Kelli & baby Graison will be coming in at Sanford tonight @ 6:30 - I hope the driving isn't too bad for me to pick them up. Supposed to rain the whole time Kyli is here. LOVE the wildlife, as always. Just looks amazingly relaxed! Love, Betty
