Day 1 proved we've gotten a little forgetful since our last trip
Hi everyone,
Sorry for the delay of
writing, but we have not had any Internet connection and poor cell phone
service until today. This made writing
a blog impossible. Thanks for
understanding.
We always look forward to
our trips and this one started out a little more eventful than the others. Let’s just say we learned quickly that we’ve
been off the road for way too long.
We’ve gotten a little rusty and a little more senile. J We stopped
in Wildwood to get gas and realized Ton had left his wallet at home. Cant’ get very far that way, so we unhooked
the little car from behind the RV and Ton drove it 40 miles back home to get
his wallet. I waited at the gas station
in the R.V. and he got back a little over an hour later. Gave us a laugh and it’s something we will
remember.
We arrived at today’s
campground about 2:00 p.m. Riverside
Rendezvous in Mayo, FL is a nice place with friendly people, 3 swimming
pools, horseshoes and corn hole for games to plan and it’s right on the banks
of the River. Only problem was the
State of Florida closed all access to the river because of severe flooding.
We’ve enclosed some pictures as Ton rode his bike down to where people normally
check in here to see the water. They
had to move the office and the restaurant up to the pool area entrance because
the other flooded this weekend. They
expect the river to go up 8 more inches today.
We arrived about 1:00 and
it was Our Lucky Day, because we got into our site right away. We rode our bikes and went to the beach.
Ton grilled us a wonderful
Steak dinner tonight and then we left for an evening bike ride. If a person wants to go shopping, or out to
dinner they have to go back over to the mainland to do so. On the Island we have a lighthouse, one gas
station and a few souvenir shops. If
we do not post, it is because we have very erratic cell phone service both for
phone and Internet. We will catch up on
things when we can. Enjoy and Thanks
for checking in on us.
Here are a few pictures of these two days. Not very exciting days as
it rained all day with Tornado warnings for our area all day. Some touched down and it was all on the
inland side and they never crossed over the bay to the Island. When the rain cleared up we went for a
short bike ride to the ocean and see the rough surf. It got a lot cooler with a high wind, but was nice to get out for
an hour.
Wednesday was a repeat of
Tuesday except for no tornado warnings.
We are still blessed though since the office moved us to a handicapped
site and it is all paved so we were never sitting in puddles of water like a lot
of others. If we had gone to our next
location, they had 8 inches of rain in one hour and it is totally flooded at
this time. We will stay here on the
island where it is safe again tomorrow and then decide our next move. The interstate is closed and lots of roads
in Pensacola are also flooded and we will be going through that area and
staying near it. We’ll see what
tomorrow brings.
Sometimes you just enjoy Gods nature - even the raindrops on the pine tree outside our window.
May 1 & 2 – Summerfield, AL
We arrived here at 1:00pm with clear skies and good weather predictions for the next few days. It is cool (only in the mid 60’s) Woo Hoo, we’re ready for some dry days.
Coming into town we passed where the highway collapsed, with high flooding in here 3 days ago. Other places and roads nearby are worse than this one we passed. In our campground, the permanent homes still have water all around them from 19 inches of rain they got 3 days ago. What we were in at St. George Island was here first, then moved across the state.
We love it in the RV so we would rather be traveling no matter the weather, just for the change of scenery. All other things we do and experience is a bonus and a blessing. Tonight we went to Lamberts CafĂ© (where they throw rolls) in Foley, AL. It’s a restaurant that we had heard of before so we had to try it. We came home with more leftovers than we ate while there. It was an interesting and fun experience.
Ton's holding 1/2 of the rolls they throw. LOL
I took home more of my roast beef stack than I ate.
This evening we rode our bikes around the campground to see where it was flooded. What a mess. Our hearts go out to all those affected by the storms all over and thank God for our blessing
Enough of catching up. It's time to go outside and enjoy the day.
